Why choose the SFC Spartans?We have a track record of success on and off the field. Our organization has operated successfully since 2009. We are a competitive program that emphasizes the fundamentals of the game while focusing on continuous player development. We have fun, win games, play good softball, develop mental character and build great relationships along the way.

Who are the coaches?Our coaching staff consists of volunteer parents who have previous playing experience and/or experience coaching at the youth level. We feel we have some great coaches that teach fundamentals and individual progression for each player. We are supplementing hitting and pitching with professional coaches to provide extra instruction. We also using a professional conditioning coach for strengthening and conditioning exercises. SFC requires coaching background checks and, for the upcoming season, USA Baseball BASE (Baseball Athlete Safety Education) coursework.

How many age groups does SFC have?The Sammamish Fastpitch Club currently fields 10u, 12u, and 14u age-level teams.

Is SFC Little League friendly?Yes. SFC is Little League friendly, meaning our schedules typically complement the Little League schedule. We try to work around both the little league schedule and high school softball season.

Are there geographic boundary requirements for SFC?SFC welcomes players from across Seattle's eastside and beyond. There are no geographic boundary requirements for SFC.

When and where are tryouts?SFC holds tryouts in July of each year at a local field on Seattle's eastside. The 2024-25 season tryouts are scheduled for the week of July 15. Please refer to our tryout page for more information or register for tryouts here.

How does the tryout work?All potential players are given equal opportunity to showcase their skills in fielding, hitting, pitching, catching, and running the bases. Our coaches look for a fundamental skill set, athleticism, hustle, and ability to take direction from the coaching staff.

When will I be notified of tryout results?Players will be notified if they are selected to join the team within one week of the tryout - if not sooner.

How is the age determined for SFC teams?SFC plays in NSA, USA and USSSA tournaments and the tournament age determination is based on the players birthday and age based on the calendar year (Jan-Dec). To determine your softball age group use the USSSA age calculator (found here).

Does my child need to play with her age group?Most players play at their age group with a few exceptions playing the level above their age group. Players cannot play below their age group. Feel free to contact SFC to have a more in-depth discussion about what might be the best fit for your child.

How many games do you play and is there travel?Our teams play around 40-60 games during the season. Games start as early as September after teams are formed and typically end the last week of July. These will be a mix of scrimmage and tournament games. Most teams travel 1-2 times for overnight tournaments during the season. Yakima, Tri-Cities, Wenatchee and Vancouver/Portland are the most common locations. Travel tournaments will be discussed as a team at the beginning of the season to set expectations and get team agreement.

Where do you practice and play games?SFC outdoor practice and home game fields are primarily on the Eastside in Sammamish, Issaquah, Snoqualmie, and North Bend. Our home fields are Brock O'Conner and McWhirter in Sammamish. Our off-season winter training is at Velotech (Redmond) and Field of Champions (Preston). Away games and tournaments are generally in the greater Seattle area with occasional tournaments requiring overnight travel.

When are practices?The manager and coach are responsible for arranging practice locations & times, so this will differ for each team. Once the season starts, your team will have their own TeamSnap page with practice date, locations and times. Most SFC teams begin outdoor practices in early fall. Off-season winter workouts begin in November at our indoor facility partners. In early spring, SFC teams will be in a regular cadence of outdoor practices. In general, practices are held 2-3 times a week. Indoor practices are typically 60-90 minutes and outdoor practices are two hours.

When are games/tournaments played?Each team is responsible for their own schedule and the manager will provide that level of detail during their early season parent meetings. Once the season starts, your team will have their own TeamSnap page with game/tournament dates, locations, and times.

When does the SFC season end?The SFC season ends at the end of July each year.

How much does it cost?Fees are reviewed and subject to change annually. Our budgets are set to provide our teams with the best equipment, uniforms, off season training and fields available. Registration costs include full uniform, tournament and scrimmage fees, supplemental professional instruction, team insurance coverage and other administrative fees. Travel fees for overnight tournaments are not covered. There are no extra hidden costs. Payment plans and/or financial aid are available.

What do fees go towards?Off season indoor practice facilities, outdoor practice field rentals (turf & dirt), external coach instruction (hitting, pitching, conditioning), tournament fees, uniforms, equipment, umpire fees for scrimmages, team insurance and administrative fees (SFC website, Game Changer, TeamSnap).

What equipment does SFC provide as part of paid fees?SFC provides two sets of uniforms (jersey, pants, socks), batting helmet, equipment bag, practice shirt, and warm-up jacket.

What equipment do I need to buy my child?You will be required to supply your child with a glove, bat, shoes (turf and cleats) and face shield. Additional gear (batting gloves, pads, etc) are at the discretion of the player and parent. Please talk to your coach about the appropriate bat for your age level, size, etc. We do get team discounts on equipment and supplies from several organizations. Please inquire if you are looking for something specific and our coaching staff can assist.

Is my Spartans team fee refundable?Your initial down payment of $500 is non refundable, the remainder is to be negotiated based on how much your player has participated in offseason training, uniform fitting/ordering, practices, games, etc. Please know that we ask you to take careful consideration when accepting an offer to play as that takes a spot away from another potential player if you then chose you do not want to participate at a later time.
